I just got done doing the Webliography research and I actually found two websites that I thought were really good. One was called Teachers Lounge (http://www.gradebook.org/Secondary%20Teacher's%20Lounge.htm)and it had some really good tools for all teachers. It was set up with chat rooms to discuss issues. It was also set up with many educational video's to handle multiple issues that might come up in your class. For a beginning teacher it provided lesson plans and advice for almost all your needs.
Since I am in this to teach business I really liked one site that I found that would be incredibly useful when teaching kids about business. There were a couple of providers of this service, but I believe the Smart Stocks (http://www.smartstocks.com/) website was laid out better than the others. This website allows students to invest $100,000 at the beginning of the semester in certain stocks. Other than the fact the money is not real it gives the student a reality to what would happen as they manage their portfolio. This is something every student should be required to go through just so they understand basic money and portfolio management.
The website I found the most interesting was http://www.judging101.com/ . It is a useful tool that allows students to practice judging livestock. A student or teacher can go through several different lessons and show the student show to judge livestock.
The student can fill out the questions and then look at the answers that are posted on the website. This tool is almost as good as looking at animals in person.
This website is helpful because you can judge at any time. This website information will also be helpful for students for competitions and in real life. The students will be able to pick out valuable livestock that will make money.
I like the idea of the website (http://www.smartstocks.com/) and letting the students invest fake money in stocks. This type of hands on activities is a great tool to utilize. I would consider using this tool in my agriculture classroom to help explain the farm market and why the stock looses or gains value.
I also found websites that helped with lesson plans that I plan on using in my teaching career, when needed.
Mallory K you have a very interesting field of study. I did a loan one time for someone who teaches agriculture. I think it is great to teach these types of subjects. It is certainly something that we need for our future generations. Of course, my brain streamlines everything to financials. I can tell you, when I received my degree in finance it surprised me how much money is to be made in livestock. You should look into teaching a section about playing the futures market. That way people can hedge themselves if there is a downward move to their profits with livestock. If it is forecasted for the price to go down you can play the futures and short the commodity and still make money even though you are selling your stock cheaper. Isn't the financial market a beautiful thing? I believe that smartstock website has a function for that as well.

This is a website full of information about the NBEA. This information includes the organizations mission, how to join, member benefits, and a list of publications for business teachers, conference information, list of workshops, and Business Education Standards. It is a site where you can find just about any information you need as a business teacher.
I like the first website you talked about called the teachers lounge. I went to the website and saw that there was some really good videos out there to help any teacher with different issues in the classroom.
The website I liked the most for my content area is (www.pecentral.org). This website has many different lesson plans available, program ideas, assessment tools, bulletin board ideas as well as easy access to research for PE and Health teachers. I also like this website because it is free to everyone. Most of the other websites that I found required a membership for a portion of the site. This is a website that we talk a lot about in our classroom to help us when we begin teaching. It is a website that I plan to use when I teach.
Re: Rhonda Mulvaney I just looked at this site. It is very interesting and has a lot of tools that would be very good for every teacher to have. I like that it has information on a variety of topics that will be good to have access to as we begin teaching. I also liked the tips that are available for common classroom problems: cheating, plagiarism, as well as problems the teacher may encounter like test writing and lesson plans. This is a very good site that I will bookmark and keep for later.
Rhonda and Mallory, I am in business education as well and really enjoy the smartstocks.com. I actually got to work with this website in high school as a student. This website is a great tool to use and can be applied to either an economics or finance class. Actually this website is a good tool that could be integrated into many classes. When I used this website in high school we made it a competition every week to see you had the best gain. Most students really enjoyed this because it kept it exciting and allows the students to interact with each other. Another good tip is making sure the students have time in class to do some good research on actual stocks because some students don’t have time or accessibility at home.
Kansas State Department of Education is an important website that all teachers in Kansas should know. This website allows you to read recent articles on successful teachers in Kansas, view academic standards for all content areas, view an overview of Kansas assessments, information on school finance options and much more. I recommend all students to view this website before entering into your student-teaching.
This website gives you the rules and regulations that need to be followed in the state of Kansas, all this information should be known and understood before entering the classroom. In addition this website shows you the opportunities or benefits you can receive for your classroom that you may never have heard about.
One of the most helpful web sites I found was http://www.4teachers.org/. This is a site that keeps you up to date on new technology that can be applied in your classroom. I think one of the most important things in teaching is staying up to date on new things and ideas that are coming into your area. This web site helps explain them and teaches you how to use them. Our technology is skyrocketing and it is quite the task to try and keep up with it. This web site helps you with that. It shows what to do and how to do it. It seems like the older you get the harder it is to keep up with all the change, but this helps explain all the new technologies.
Rhonda, I visited your first web site that you posted about. The live chat room was a very neat part of it. I think this is one thing that many of the educational web sites are missing. A live chat room provides you with a way to communicate very specific problems or ideas. Also if you are having any problems with the web sites you can voice them there during the chat. It makes communicating through the web site very easy. The business web site you talked about seems like it would really help give you a real life experience about how the stock market works. Experience is something that is hard to get. It seems like as a student you have a ton of information thrown at you all the time, but one of the biggest things that you need is real life experiences. That web site allows you to see what it is like, without having the repercussions of making a bad business mistake.
The website that caught my eye was http://www.studiotreasure.com. This site is not your common teacher aid, with lesson plans and instruction, but instead a source for art today. That including different museums, featured artists, videos, magazines, heritage, and different art styles. As a future teacher I feel it is important to get your students involved in and out of the classroom. Art is all around us and if the students are made aware of that their appreciation for the subject should increase. All types of art are presented on this site. Anything from interior design to oil paintings from the 1800's. Overall just a great site and source for art involvement and increased learning. Also included are lessons, other sources and websites.
After reading about the gradebook website you found I was drawn to the fact that there were educational videos and instruction for classroom management. I also feel that the chat rooms would be helpful for bringing in new ideas and sharing ideas ir thoughts about what woeks, or does not work for you as a teacher.
